NIRS: GOOD NEWS: No Nuclear Bailout TODAY – Now Let's Stop it for Good!

December 11, 2017
Dear Friend,
Today was the deadline set for a decision on Trump’s massive nuclear-and-coal bailout. And this morning we won a reprieve. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) is going to take an extra 30 days to consider what to do. No bailout today is good, but it’s not good enough.
All year long, we have worked to stop this dirty and destructive waste of our energy dollars – with protests, mobilizations, and filing tens of thousands of petitions and comments from the public. And today is one of those days when we know it all pays off.
But we still need to keep the pressure up in 2018 – and not just on this outrageous bailout. It’s just the tip of the iceberg. This year, the nuclear industry has launched what amounts to a Radioactive Race to the Bottom. Nuclear corporations are also pushing for waste dumps, mass transportation of nuclear waste, lower safety standards, massive tax breaks, uranium mining in the Grand Canyon, attacks on renewable energy … and much more.
You count on NIRS to lead the fight – and thanks to your activism and your support, we’ve been doing it all year long! Together, we have had a huge impact. Over the next few weeks, we’ll share more stories and photos of the progress the anti-nuke movement has made this year, and what we need to do next year.
Nuclear corporations are not letting up, and we aren’t either. To stop the Radioactive Race to the Bottom, we need to build on every bit of progress and create a groundswell of grassroots activism.
The power of a grassroots movement is that we multiply our impact by acting together. And in that spirit, other generous supporters have agreed to match your donation this month with one of their own. So your support to NIRS pays itself forward … it doubles itself today, and enables us to educate, organize, and mobilize more and more people in 2018.
Thanks for all you do!
