At a time when the NJ legislature has adjourned for summer recess, the depleted NJ State House Press corps is on vacation, and the public is distracted by many other important things, including how to pay the rent, electric bill, fill the gas tank, and put food on the table, NJ Gov. Sherrill will sign a huge multi-billion dollar subsidy bill to promote new nuclear power plants, see:

No doubt that The Gov. will not be standing with her “Green friends” from the NJ Sierra Club or the NRDC to tout how this nuclear scheme will make NJ more “affordable”.

My apologies for jumping the gun last week on the Gov.’s signing ceremony for the nuclear bill - she used her “Green” friends to sign the data center bill, see:

This is some pathetic cheerleading that has destroyed the reputation and credibility of the NJ Chapter of the Sierra Club.

I worked there as Policy Director for 7 years (and a short stint as Acting Director before the club hired Jeff Tittel), so I have skin in this game.

Tittel significantly increased the Chapter’s membership, greatly enhanced its credibility, and expanded its influence on public policy. Tittel was the voice of NJ environmental activist for over 30 years - he was the go to media source on virtually all issues. And he always had a cogent sound bite that perfectly illustrated the issue at hand.

After his retirement, the Chapter hired a former low level narrowly educated DEP technician with zero grass roots activist experience, no media experience, and no regulatory or public policy experience.

It is sad for me to have to say that she has been a disaster and destroyed the credibility of the NJ Chapter.

So, we expect Gov. Sherrill to sign her nuclear subsidy bill tomorrow alone, without the green cover.

Let’s hope NJ media holds her accountable.
